Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) Basic is a 4-hour introductory course teaching the ASIM Checklist integrated response process to law enforcement, fire, and EMS responders. Instructors introduce key concepts of integration and engage responders in three (3) hands-on functional exercise scenarios, enabling response practice while improving comprehension and retention.

The course addresses:

  • The ASIM Checklist process
  • Staging
  • Tactical & Contact Teams
  • Casualty Collection Points
  • Triage & Rescue Task Forces (RTF)
  • Transport & Ambulance Exchange Points

Train-the-Trainer

ASIM Basic is delivered in a Train-the-Trainer format with all of the needed materials left behind, including PowerPoint files, Instructor and Participant manual PDF files, and a full Counterstrike™ Basic kit. The Train-the-Trainer delivery includes teach-backs for the new instructors so they may start teaching classes immediately.

The 2-day Train-the-Trainer for up to five (5) instructors includes an 8-hr delivery on the first day for the 5 instructors plus 20 responders, followed by two 4-hr deliveries on the second day (each with 25 responders) where the instructor-trainees practice their delivery under the guidance of C3 Instructors.

An optional 3-day Train-the-Trainer is available to train up to 10 instructors and 125 responders.

Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) Intermediate is a 2-day mid-level course offering proficiency in the ASIM Checklist integrated response process with seven hands-on scenario exercises (using the multi-responder NIMSPro™ 3 3D Simulation System). The course is appropriate for all ranks and provides hands-on incident management experience to achieve an integrated and effective response to Active Shooter Events.

This course provides responders with the experience and confidence to manage an Active Shooter Event, no matter where they’re assigned in the ICS structure.

Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) Advanced is a 3-day comprehensive course achieving mastery of the ASIM Checklist integrated response process with ten hands-on scenario exercises (using the multi-responder NIMSPro3™ 3D Simulation System). The course is appropriate for all ranks and provides hands-on incident management experience to all responders. Students are trained on integrated and effective responses to a full range of Active Shooter and hostile event threats, including Complex Coordinated Attacks (CCAs).

The course addresses all items in the Intermediate course PLUS:

  • Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
  • Hostage/barricade events
  • Complex Coordinated Attack (CCA)

Additional functional exercises include:

  • Multiple attackers
  • Simultaneous attack at multiple sites
  • High casualty numbers
  • Hostage/barricade with negotiation
  • Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
  • CCA Capstone exercise scenario
